I watched my family build wealth in my great-grandparents and grandparents generations and lose it all in my parents generation due to a lack of financial literacy. To do better for my children and leave them a legacy, I started to learn about investing, web3, and the digital economy. In the process, I talked to a lot of friends and people in my community and realized there were a lot of us with a lot to learn. Many had adult children who can't afford to move out on their own or fully support themselves and live their best lives in this economy because of poor financial choices or just lack of financial literacy.

Most BIPOC learn financial education from social media vs. financial planners unlike members of other groups. The information spread on social media is not always accurate or beneficial. I thought back to when I first arrived at college and got hit with predatory financial offerings, and how it took too long to dig out. I realized if we could catch kids in high school and college and set them on the right path, they could launch faster and more effectively and start building wealth while living their best lives.

Ujamaa.financial was built to honor the labor of our ancestors who worked to open doors and make each generation better. We want to ensure current and future BIPOC generations have the financial tools and understanding to amass and maintain generational wealth.

Ujamaa.financial is a gamified learning platform for Black, Brown, and Indigenous Gen Z students to learn financial literacy along with an accompanying mobile wallet app for financial services such as traditional banking options and incentivized saving and investing.

Ujamaa means cooperative economics and our mission is to create generational wealth in the Black, Brown, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) Diaspora communities. We teach financial literacy before costly fiscal mistakes are made and offer a wallet app which assists our customers in reaching financial goals and making smart choices.
