Kentucky Greens Co. started in 2018 to find a consistent way to supply small markets with greens year-round through partnerships and producing vegetables using hydroponic systems. With a grassroots / pop-up approach, we have partnered to initiate farmers' markets in West Louisville (Opportunity Corner Market Black CDC & Shawnee Market Ag). Additionally, we collaborated with local food groups to push effective policies and secure grant funding. While not generating much revenue, these efforts helped us gain a better understanding of our customers' needs and solutions for greater food access. Now, we are focused on scaling to meet our original vision of a better food ecosystem within low-income and revitalized communities.
We currently produce hydroponic lettuce, cooking greens, and herbs while sourcing from local farms and market gardens that utilize organic practices for seasonal crops and meats (e.g., beef, pork, chicken, and eggs).
We are a farm that operates as a start-up to fill the gaps in our local food system by utilizing tech and data to serve our customers across multiple sales channels. Starting in Louisville, we are working to advocate for healthy corner stores that typically serve low-income Black and Brown communities.
